Paper Airplanes

I checked a book out at the library on paper airplanes. Eric told me this morning that he thought a paper airplane was like being a Christian. Once he explained it some to me, I told him I thought that would make an excellent devotional for him to lead. So, tonight he led us in a devotional. He led two songs, then had a Lord's Supper, then explained how we are like paper airplanes. He said that the devil wants to cause us to go crooked and not reach the finish line of heaven. But he said if we follow Jesus, he will help us always go straight. Love that kid and his sweet heart for the Lord!

Another great meet!

So, Eric blew me away at this meet too. He got first place in both breaststroke and backstroke. Whoo-hoo! He has never gotten first place before!!! And this also got him 10 points for the team. He has now earned 16 points. So very proud of this hard working kiddo. He also got 8th in freestyle. And a DQ again for butterfly. Gonna keep on trying. Maybe he can get a butterfly time this year. Besides the two first places, he also got some big news. He got to participate in his first relay. They only pick the fastest freestyle swimmers, and he has never been chosen before. I looked just out of habit of checking and saw his name on the list. We were quite surprised, and he was super nervous, but it went well. He was on the C team (so it was our 3rd ranked team), and their team came in 4th. He did a really good job as the anchor.

First swim meet

Eric rocked the first swim meet of the season! He competed in all four strokes. In freestyle, he went from 29.84 seconds last year to 23.93 seconds this year. He took off almost 6 seconds! He came in 10th place. I was super proud of that swim! In backstroke, he was already a silver swimmer, so he was only competing against other silver swimmers. He went from 26.67 seconds last year to 23.91 seconds this year. He came in 2nd place. In breaststroke he went from 31.71 seconds to 29.12 seconds. He came in 2nd place. His time was fast enough to qualify him as a silver swimmer in breaststroke. In butterfly, he got disqualified. But, I thought he rocked it! He got a fast enough time that he would have made silver in it if he had not gotten the DQ. With his two silver swims, he has already qualified to go the Meet of Champs in both backstroke and breaststroke. So proud of that kiddo. He works very hard. Swim teams compete against each other earning points for each 1st (5 points), 2nd (3 points), and 3rd (1 point) place. In each of the two previous years, Eric won 1 3rd place, so he earned 1 point for the team. This year, he has already earned 6 points.
